Ingredients/Components
- cans pitted tart red cherries - 2 oz
- sugar - 1 c
- cornstarch - 1/4 c
- butter - 1 Tbsp
- drops almond extract - 4 item
- pastry lined 9-inch pie shell - 1 item
- pastry for lattice top of pie - 1 item
How to make cherry pie:
Drain cherries; reserving 1 cup liquid. In a large saucepan, combine 3/4 cup of the sugar and the cornstarch. Stir in reserved cherry liquid. Cook over medium heat until thickened and bubbly, stirring constantly. Cook and stir for 2 more minutes. Remove from heat. Stir in remaining sugar, butter and almond extract; stir in cherries. Cool slightly. Transfer filling to a pastry lined 9-inch pie pan. Top with lattice crust. Cover edge with foil. Bake at 375° for 25 minutes. Crust should be golden.
