Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 2 c
  • all-purpose flour
  • baking powder
  • baking soda
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • eggs - 2 item
  • milk - 1 c
  • vegetable oil - 1/2 c
  • vanilla - 2 tsp
  • boiling water - 1 c
  • jar maraschino cherries, minced save juice - 1 item
  • small bag chocolate chips - 1 item
  • Icing:1 stick butter
  • powdered sugar - 3 c

How to make cherry chocolate chip cake:

Icing:1 stick butter2/3 c. Hershey's cocoa3 c. powdered sugar1/3 c. milk1 tsp. vanilla Heat oven to 350°. Combine dry ingredients in large bowl. Add eggs, milk, oil, vanilla and cherry juice. Beat for 2 minutes on medium speed. Stir in boiling water. Add cherries and chocolate chips. Pour into two 9-inch round greased and floured pans. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes. Cool 10 minutes. Remove from pans and place on wire rack to cool.

Icing: Melt butter. Stir in cocoa. Alternately add powdered sugar and milk. Mix on medium speed until reaches spreading consistency. Add vanilla.

Note: If needed, add more milk.
