Cheesy spoon bread
Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1 tsp
- eggs, beaten - 6 item
- corn meal - 1 c
- milk, scalded - 3 c
- grated American cheese - 1 c
- dry mustard or 1 tsp - 1/2 tsp
- cayenne or hot pepper - 1/8 tsp
How to make cheesy spoon bread:
Mix cornmeal, salt, mustard and pepper together. Add to milk and cook, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens. Add cheese; cook and stir until cheese melts, about 2 or 3 minutes. Add eggs and mix thoroughly. Pour into greased baking dish and bake at 350° until puffy and browned, about 45 minutes. This is supposed to serve 12, but is barely enough for our family of 8.
