Cheese filled manicotti
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 Tbsp
- salt - 2 Tbsp
- water - 2 c
- chopped onion - 1/2 c
- Parmesan cheese - 1/4 c
- ground beef - 3/4 lb
- oregano - 2 Tbsp
- parsley - 2 Tbsp
- can sliced mushrooms, drained - 1 oz
- cans tomato paste - 2 oz
- slightly beaten egg - 1 item
- pork sausage - 1/4 lb
- Ricotta cheese or cottage cheese
- large clove minced garlic - 1 item
- to 8 manicotti - 6 item
How to make cheese filled manicotti:
Brown meats; drain fats. Add water, tomato paste, onion, mushrooms, oregano, 1 1/2 tablepoons salt, sugar and garlic. Simmer, uncovered, 30 minutes. Stir occasionally. Combine cottage cheese, Parmesan cheese, egg, parsley and 1/2 tablespoon salt. Cook manicotti in water until tender, about 20 minutes. Drain. Rinse in cold water; drain.Using a tablespoon, stuff each shell with about 3 tablespoons cheese mixture. Pour half the meat sauce in 11 3/4 x 7 1/2 x 1 3/4-inch baking dish. Arrange stuffed manicotti in a row. Spoon remaining sauce over. Bake at 350°, covered, for 30 to 35 minutes.
