  • milk - 2 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 1/4 c
  • butter
  • water - 2 c
  • pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • chopped onion - 1/4 c
  • diced celery - 1/2 c
  • diced carrots - 1/2 c
  • Cheddar cheese, grated - 2 c
  • diced potatoes - 2 c
  • cubed ham or bacon - 1 c

How to make cheddar chowder:

White Sauce:1/4 c. butter1/4 c. flour2 c. milk2 c. Cheddar cheese, grated1 c. cubed ham or bacon Combine water, potatoes, carrots, celery, onion, salt and pepper in large kettle. Boil for 10 to 12 minutes.

White Sauce: Meanwhile, in small saucepan, make white sauce by melting butter. Add flour; stir until smooth (about 1 minute). Slowly add milk; cook until thickened. Add grated cheese to white sauce; stir until melted. Add white sauce and cubed ham or bacon to vegetables that have not been drained. Heat through.
