Ingredients/Components

  • water or broth - 2 c
  • diced carrots - 2 c
  • diced celery - 1/2 c
  • diced potatoes - 2 c
  • chopped onion - 1/4 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • butter
  • flour - 1/4 c
  • milk - 2 c
  • grated Cheddar cheese - 2 c
  • cubed ham optional - 1 c

How to make cheddar chowder:

White Sauce:1/4 c. butter1/4 c. flour2 c. milk2 c. grated Cheddar cheese1 c. cubed ham (optional) Combine water, potatoes, carrots, celery, onion, salt and pepper in large kettle. Boil 10 to 12 minutes.

Meanwhile in a small saucepan, make white sauce by melting butter. Add flour and stir until smooth, about 1 minute. Slowly add milk; cook until thickened. Add grated cheese to white sauce. Stir until melted. Add white sauce and cooked ham to vegetables that have not been drained. Heat through. Makes 6 servings.
