Ingredients/Components
- cornstarch - 3/4 c
- nonfat dry milk - 2 c
- pepper - 1/2 tsp
- dried onion flakes - 2 Tbsp
- instant chicken bouillon - 1/4 c
- dried basil, crushed optional - 1 tsp
- dried thyme, crushed optional - 1 tsp
How to make casserole sauce mix:
Combine all ingredients and store in airtight container. To use as substitute for one can of condensed soup, mix 1/3 cup of the mix with 1 1/4 cups water in a saucepan. Cook and stir until thickened.Here is a comparison of the commercial condensed soup and the homemade substitute:
*10 1/2 ounce can mushroom soup: 330 calories, 23.9 grams fat, 2,370 mg sodium.
*Casserole Sauce Mix: 95 calories, 0.2 grams fat, 710 mg sodium.
Much cheaper than canned condensed soups.
