Ingredients/Components

  • milk - 2 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 1/4 c
  • butter - 1/4 c
  • dry mustard - 1/4 tsp
  • pepper - 1/8 tsp
  • sliced carrots - 12 item
  • celery salt - 1/4 tsp
  • small minced onion - 1 item
  • sharp American cheese - 1/2 lb
  • fresh buttered bread cubes - 3 c

How to make carrot casserole:

Cook carrots and drain. In butter, cook onion 2 to 3 minutes. Stir in flour, salt and mustard, then milk. Cook, stirring until thick and smooth. Add pepper and celery salt. In casserole, arrange layer of carrots and cheese; repeat, ending with carrots. Pour sauce over carrots. Top with bread cubes. Cook for 25 minutes at 350°, uncovered.
