  • corn syrup - 2 c
  • evaporated milk or cream - 2 c

How to make caramels:

Boil sugar and salt until soft ball stage, stirring occasionally. Add the butter and milk gradually so that the mixture does not stop boiling. Boil until it forms a hard ball in water, stirring constantly. Pour in pan and add vanilla. To the recipe, add 1 cup nuts and 1 cut dates, if desired.
