Ingredients/Components
- brown sugar - 2 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- light corn syrup - 1/2 c
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- margarine - 1/2 lb
- cream of tartar - 1/4 tsp
- popped popcorn 12 c - 6 qt
- dry roasted peanuts optional - 1 item
How to make caramel corn:
In 2 1/2-quart saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, butter, cream of tartar and salt. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly, to hard boil stage (about 5 minutes). Remove from heat. Stir in baking soda quickly, but thoroughly.Pour at once over popcorn in large roasting pan or baking pan. Stir gently until kernels are coated. Bake in preheated oven at 200° for 1 hour. Stir 2 or 3 times during that time (about every 20 minutes). Turn out all at once on foil and allow to cool. Store in airtight container.
