  • vanilla - 2 tsp
  • milk - 1 c
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • butter - 1 c
  • margarine or butter - 1/2 lb
  • baking powder - 3 tsp
  • large eggs - 4 item
  • cake flour - 3 c
  • Cream butter thoroughly

How to make caramel cake:

Sift flour with baking powder and salt. Cream butter thoroughly. Gradually add sugar, creaming it until light and fluffy. Add unbeaten eggs and beat well. Alternately add milk and flour. Begin and end with flour. Beat until smooth. Add flavoring. Bake in layers in 350° oven for 25 to 30 minutes.Caramel Icing:4 c. sugar1 c. milk1/2 lb. margarine or butter1 tsp. vanilla Burn 1/2 cup of sugar and mix with other sugar and milk that has been heated. Bring to a boil. Let it boil enough to form a soft ball in water. Remove from heat. Add butter and vanilla. When butter has melted, beat until stiff enough to spread. Add nuts just before spreading on layers.
