Calico beans
Ingredients/Components
- brown sugar - 3/4 c
- vinegar - 1 tsp
- diced green pepper - 1 c
- catsup - 1/2 c
- lean ground beef - 1 lb
- large onion, diced - 1 item
- slices bacon - 4 item
- can red kidney beans, drained - 1 item
- yellow mustard - 7 tsp
- can lima beans, drained - 1 item
- can butter beans, drained - 1 item
- kielbasa or country smoked sausage, cut into rounds - 1/2 lb
- can baked beans, not drained - 1 lb
How to make calico beans:
Brown meats, onion and pepper; drain. While that is browning, mix catsup, brown sugar, vinegar and mustard; add to crock-pot. To this add beans. For best results, a minimum of 3 cans of beans is needed, one of which must be baked beans, not pork 'n beans. Add meat mixture and stir well but gently. Cook on low for 4 hours in crock-pot or bake covered in oven at 350° for 1 hour. Serve with salad and cornbread for a meal.Recipe categories: Main dish, Beef, One Dish meal.
