Ingredients/Components

  • sugar
  • eggs - 6 item
  • milk - 1/2 c
  • salt - 2 tsp
  • nutmeg - 6 tsp
  • baking powder - 6 tsp
  • lemon flavoring - 6 tsp
  • Crisco oil
  • flour, sifted with other dry ingredients - 8 c

How to make cake donuts:

Cream oil and sugar. Beat eggs until light. Add to oil and sugar the lemon flavoring. Beat well. Add sifted flour, alternately with milk, beating well after each addition, with electric mixer. Cover bowl and place in refrigerator overnight.

Heat oil or shortening until small dough rises to surface and brown. Place about 1/3 dough on floured surface. Sprinkle with flour. Roll out to 3/8 to 1/2-inch thick. Cook donuts until edge starts to brown, then turn donut and brown. Place donuts on double paper towel to absorb oil. Then place on cooling rack. Can be stored in plastic bags in freezer to keep fresh.
