Ingredients/Components

  • butter, softened - 1 c
  • sugar - 2 c
  • eggs - 4 item
  • vanilla extract - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1/4 tsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • baking soda - 1/2 tsp
  • all-purpose flour - 3 c
  • lemon extract - 1 tsp

How to make buttermilk pound cake:

Cream butter; gradually add sugar, beating at medium speed of an electric mixer until well blended. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Combine flour, soda and salt; add to creamed mixture, alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Stir in flavorings. Pour batter into a greased and floured 10-inch tube pan. Bake at 325° for 1 hour or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan 10 minutes; remove from pan and cool completely on a rack. Yield: One 10-inch cake.
