Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 c
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- flour - 4 Tbsp
- butter - 1 Tbsp
- egg yolks - 3 item
- buttermilk - 2 c
- egg whites - 3 item
- egg, beaten - 1 item
- lemon extract - 1 Tbsp
- pastry shell - 1 item
How to make buttermilk pie:
Sift together sugar and flour. Add one egg well beaten with the yolks of 3 eggs. Add fresh cultured buttermilk. Stir and cook until thick and creamy. Remove from fire. Add butter and lemon extract. Let cool slightly and pour into a baked pastry shell. Cover with meringue. Spread smoothly upon the pie. Bake 15 minutes at 350°.Meringue: Measure 1/3 cup sugar and 3 egg whites. Beat until sugar has lost its grain.
