Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1/2 c
  • salt - 2 tsp
  • flour - 4 or
  • water - 1/4 c
  • Crisco - 1/2 c
  • beaten eggs - 3 item
  • yeast - 1 pkg
  • scalded milk - 3/4 c

How to make butterhorns:

Place yeast in 1/4 cup warm water. Add 1 teaspoon sugar to activate yeast. Let set about 10 minutes. Scald milk. Stir Crisco, sugar and salt into hot milk. Let cool slightly. Add yeast, flour and eggs. Knead dough, place in oiled bowl (turn to coat), cover and let rise until doubled in size.

Turn dough out on floured surface, press down and let rest. Divide into 3 parts. Roll each part into 12-inch round, brush with melted butter and cut into 12 pizza-shaped pieces. Roll each piece, starting at wide end. Brush each with butter, cover and let rise one hour. Bake 10 to 12 minutes at 400°.
