Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 2 c
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • milk - 1/4 c
  • butter or margarine - 1/2 c
  • buttermilk - 1/2 c
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • all-purpose flour - 2 c
  • powdered sugar
  • butter/margarine
  • dark unsweetened cocoa - 1/4 c
  • dark cocoa - 2 Tbsp
  • strong coffee or water - 1 c

How to make brownies:

Frosting:1/2 c. butter/margarine2 Tbsp. dark cocoa1/4 c. milk3 1/2 c. powdered sugar1 tsp. vanilla In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and sugar. In saucepan, combine butter, shortening, coffee or water and cocoa. Stir and heat to boiling. Pour boiling mixture over the flour and sugar in the bowl. Add buttermilk, eggs, baking soda and vanilla. Mix well, using a wooden spoon or electric mixer on high. Pour into well buttered 17 1/2 x 11-inch jelly roll pan. Bake at 400° for 20 minutes or until brownies test done in the center.

Frosting: Combine butter, cocoa and milk. Bring to boiling, stirring. Mix in powdered sugar and vanilla until frosting is smooth. Pour warm frosting over brownies as soon as they come out of the oven. Cool. Makes 48 bars.
