Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1/4 c
- butter or margarine - 1/3 c
- all-purpose flour - 2 Tbsp
- lemon juice - 2 Tbsp
- ground cinnamon - 1 tsp
- ground nutmeg - 1/2 tsp
- 8 c
- frozen 9-inch pie crust - 1 item
- large paper bag - 1 item
How to make brown bag apple pie:
Filling:1 1/2 lb. (8 c.) tart apples, peeled and sliced1/4 c. sugar2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour1 tsp. ground cinnamon1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg2 Tbsp. lemon juice Topping:1/2 c. sugar1/2 c. all-purpose flour1/3 c. butter or margarine1 large paper bag Preheat oven to 400°.In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and lemon juice. Put mixture in pie crust.
For topping: In a bowl combine sugar and flour. Cut in butter; sprinkle topping over apple filling. Place pie in a large paper bag on a baking sheet. Loosely fold open end under. Bake at 400° for 50 to 60 minutes. Carefully remove pie from bag to avoid steam. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, if desired. Serves 8.
