  • sugar - 1 c
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1/4 tsp
  • butter
  • nutmeg - 1/4 tsp
  • eggs, slightly beaten - 4 item
  • milk, scalded - 4 c
  • day old bread or other bread cubes - 2 c
  • coarsely chopped pecans if desired - 1/2 1

How to make bread pudding:

Heat oven to 350°. In large bowl, soak bread in milk 5 minutes. Add sugar, butter, salt, eggs and vanilla; mix well. Stir in pecans. Pour into a 1 1/2-quart baking dish. Sprinkle with nutmeg. Place baking dish in pan of hot water in oven. Bake about 1 hour.
