Bread and butter pickles
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 4 c
- salt - 1/2 c
- vinegar - 1 qt
- ice cubes - 1 item
- celery seed - 1 Tbsp
- mustard seed - 2 Tbsp
- green peppers - 6 item
- turmeric - 1 tsp
- sliced cucumbers - 4 qt
- sliced onions - 2 lb
How to make bread and butter pickles:
Slice cucumbers, onions and green peppers; mix with 1/2 cup of salt. Cover with ice cubes or cold water. Let stand 2 or 3 hours, until cucumbers are crisp and cold.Combine remaining ingredients, bring to a boil and simmer for ten minutes. Add cucumbers, mix, bring to a boil and pack in jars.
