Bread and butter pickles
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 5 c
- vinegar - 3 c
- large onions, chopped - 2 item
- celery seed
- mustard seed - 2 Tbsp
- green peppers - 6 item
- turmeric
- cucumbers, sliced - 4 qt
- cracked ice - 1 item
- pure salt not iodized - 1/2 c
How to make bread and butter pickles:
Mix first 3 ingredients with pure salt (not iodized). Cover with cracked ice. Mix well. Let stand 3 hours. Drain and rinse off salt brine.Bring the last 5 ingredients to a boil, then add cucumber mixture. Heat thoroughly, but don't boil. Seal in hot, clean jars.
