Bread and butter pickles
Ingredients/Components
- sliced cucumbers - 1 gal
- sliced onions - 3 item
- pickling salt - 1/2 c
- turmeric - 1/2 tsp
- whole cloves - 1/2 tsp
- cider vinegar - 3 c
- sugar - 5 c
- celery seeds - 2 tsp
- mustard seeds - 2 tsp
- ice cubes - 1 item
How to make bread and butter pickles:
You will also need sterilized canning jars.Combine cucumbers, onions and salt in large dish pan. Cover with ice cubes and let stand for 3 hours. Drain the cucumbers and onions. In large sauce pot, bring the remaining ingredients to boil. Add the cucumbers and onions; bring back to boil. Remove from heat. Place in canning jars and seal as directed on the jars. Let sit for 6 weeks before opening. Refrigerate after opening.
