Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 2 c
- celery seed - 1 Tbsp
- mustard seed - 1 Tbsp
- turmeric powder - 1 Tbsp
- cucumbers - 5 lb
- vinegar white vinegar makes lighter pickles - 1 qt
How to make bread and butter pickles:
Slice cucumbers and onions very thin. Let stand in salt water (1 cup salt to each gallon of water) for 2 hours or longer. Drain. Boil in vinegar mixture until tender. Pack in jars. Seal. (Makes about 13 pints for the doubled recipe.)Recipe categories: American, Condiments, etc., Vegetables.
