Ingredients/Components
- peeled cucumbers - 1 item
- medium onions, sliced - 8 item
- cider vinegar - 3 c
- water - 1 c
- sugar - 4 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- turmeric - 1 tsp
- celery seed - 1 tsp
- dry mustard - 1 tsp
- ginger - 1/2 tsp
- cinnamon or 1 cinnamon stick - 1/2 tsp
How to make bread and butter pickles:
Slice enough cucumbers to make 1 gallon. Soak cucumbers and onions in salt water and ice cubes for 1 hour. Mix remaining ingredients. Drain cucumbers and onions; add to the mixture. After boiling for 1 minute, put in jars and seal. Makes 5 to 6 pints.Recipe categories: American, Condiments, etc., Vegetables.
