Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 5 c
  • cider vinegar - 5 c
  • coarse salt - 1/2 c
  • celery seed
  • turmeric
  • onions - 3 item
  • cucumbers, sliced - 4 lb

How to make bread and butter pickles:

Cover cucumbers, onions and salt with cold water and ice cubes. Set aside about 3 hours. Do not use metal container. Mix all other ingredients and simmer for 30 minutes. Pour cold water off cucumbers. Pack in jars. Cover with hot liquid. Process 10 minutes.
