Bread and butter pickles
Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- salt - 1/2 c
- vinegar - 2 c
- ground ginger - 1 Tbsp
- white pepper - 1/2 tsp
- celery seed - 1 Tbsp
- mustard seed - 2 Tbsp
- green peppers - 2 item
- turmeric - 1 tsp
- cucumbers - 1 gal
- large or 8 small onions - 4 item
How to make bread and butter pickles:
Slice cucumbers, onions and peppers. Pour salt over them and cover with water. Add ice and hold down with a plate for 3 hours. Drain.Bring to a boil other ingredients. Add cucumbers, peppers and onions. Cook for 5 to 15 minutes. Should be slightly crunchy. Seal in hot jars.
