Ingredients/Components

  • pickles, thinly sliced - 2 gal
  • small onions, sliced - 16 item
  • salt - 1 c
  • water - 1 item
  • turmeric - 3 tsp
  • mustard seed - 4 tsp
  • celery seed - 2 tsp
  • vinegar - 4 c
  • sugar - 6 c

How to make bread and butter pickles:

Cover pickles and onions with water and salt. Let soak for 3 hours. Drain. Mix together 10 cups water, turmeric, mustard seed, celery seed, vinegar and sugar and pour over pickles. Heat and put in jars and seal.
