Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 c
- cinnamon - 1 tsp
- packed brown sugar - 1 c
- milk - 1/4 c
- salt - 1/4 tsp
- flour - 2 c
- water - 1 c
- nutmeg - 1/4 tsp
- baking powder - 1/2 tsp
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- shortening - 1/2 c
- raisins - 1 c
- sifted confectioners sugar - 1 to
- nuts, chopped - 1/2 c
- cloves - 1 tsp
- Boil 3 minutes and cool
How to make boiled spice cake:
Put first 8 ingredients into saucepan. Boil 3 minutes and cool. Add 2 cups flour into which has been sifted 1/2 teaspoon baking powder. Add soda dissolved in small amount of hot water. May add nuts. Pour into 2 cake pans. Bake at 350° for about 20 minutes.Icing:1/2 c. butter1 c. packed brown sugar1/4 c. milk1 3/4 to 2 c. sifted confectioners sugar Melt butter in saucepan. Add brown sugar. Boil over low heat 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Stir in milk. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Cool to lukewarm. Gradually add confectioners sugar. Beat until thick enough to spread.
