  • sugar - 1/2 c
  • vanilla extract - 1/4 tsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • buttermilk - 3/4 c
  • baking powder - 1 tsp
  • baking soda - 1/4 tsp
  • shortening - 1/3 c
  • all-purpose flour - 2 c
  • butter, melted - 2 Tbsp
  • egg, beaten - 1 item
  • fresh or frozen blueberries - 1/2 c
  • milk or half and half - 2 4
  • Combine egg and buttermilk, add to flour mixture, stirring just until dry ingredients ar moistened

How to make blueberry buttermilk biscuits:

Combine first 5 ingredients in a medium bowl; cut in shortening with a pastry blender until mixture resembles cornmeal. Combine egg and buttermilk, add to flour mixture, stirring just until dry ingredients ar moistened. Stir in blueberries. Turn dough out onto heavily floured surface and knead 4 or 5 times. Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness; cut with a 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutter. Place on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake at 400° for 12 minutes or until golden brown. Brush warm biscuits with glaze. Yields 15 biscuits.Glaze For Blueberry Buttermilk Biscuits:1 1/2 c. 10x sugar2 Tbsp. butter, melted2 to 4 Tbsp. milk or half and half1/4 tsp. vanilla extract Combine all ingredients and stir until smooth. Spread over warm biscuits.
