  • sugar - 3 c
  • eggs - 5 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • milk - 1 c
  • baking powder - 1 tsp
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • all-purpose flour - 3 c
  • chopped black walnuts - 1 c
  • sticks butter or margarine - 2 item
  • rum or black walnut flavoring - 1/2 tsp

How to make black walnut pound cake:

Cream sugar, butter or margarine and shortening until light. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add flavoring and beat again. Mix 1/4 cup of flour with nutmeats and put aside. Combine remaining flour with baking powder and add alternately with milk to egg mixture. Fold in floured walnuts. Put into greased and floured tube pan. Bake at 325° for 1 hour and 20 minutes. Do not open oven during the first hour.
