Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 Tbsp
- milk - 2/3 c
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- flour - 2 c
- baking powder - 4 tsp
- shortening - 1/2 c
- cream of tartar - 1/2 tsp
How to make biscuits:
Stir thoroughly the first 5 ingredients. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Make a well in center; add milk all at once. Stir just until dough clings together. Knead gently on lightly floured surface, 10 to 12 strokes. Roll or pat to 1/2-inch thickness. Dip 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutter in flour; cut dough straight down. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 450° for 10 to 12 minutes. Brush with melted butter. Yields 12 biscuits.Recipe categories: Breads, Rolls/biscuits, High calcium.
