  • sugar - 3/4 c
  • cinnamon
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • evaporated milk
  • eggs, beaten - 2 item
  • ginger - 1/4 tsp
  • pumpkin puree - 2 c
  • cloves ground - 1/4 tsp
  • 9-inch pie crust deep-style - 1 item

How to make best pumpkin pie:

Preheat oven to 425°. Combine and mix all the ingredients, one at a time, in order given. Pour into unbaked (9-inch) deep dish type pie crust.

Bake for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350° and continue baking 50 minutes or until tests done. Tastes best if made from "homemade" pumpkin.

To make homemade pumpkin: Use 1 pumpkin (washed), remove stem and cut in half. Grease cut sides. Leave seeds in. (Seeds help retain moisture and flavor.) Place, cut side down, onto a foiled-lined cookie sheet. Bake at 350° for 60 to 90 minutes or until tender when pierced with a fork through the skin. Remove fiber and seeds. Cool a little. Then scoop out flesh and continue cooking. Put through food mill or blender to make puree. Pumpkin is now ready to use. Pumpkin puree should be refrigerated as soon as possible and used within 36 hours. After that time it will spoil very quickly.
