Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 2 Tbsp
  • lemon juice - 1 Tbsp
  • pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • tomato juice
  • Pet evaporated milk - 1/2 c
  • can mushroom stems and pieces - 4 oz
  • cooked noodles or rice - 3 c
  • hot shortening - 2 Tbsp
  • cut up onion - 1/4 c
  • round steak, 1/2-inch thick - 1 lb

How to make beef stroganoff:

Cut steak into 3 x 1-inch strips. Brown strips in shortening in 10-inch skillet. Add onion, salt and pepper. Blend in flour, then tomato juice and mushroom stems and pieces, drained. Cover; cook over low heat 1 hour, until meat is tender. Stir in mixture of milk and lemon juice. Heat until steaming, but do not boil. Serve over noodles or rice. Makes 4 servings.
