  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 3 c
  • water - 4 Tbsp
  • egg - 1 item
  • vinegar - 1 Tbsp
  • shortening - 1 c
  • ground chuck
  • small rutabaga, diced - 1/2 item
  • medium onions, finely diced - 2 item
  • carrots, finely diced - 4 item

How to make beef pasties:

Filling:5 medium potatoes, finely diced4 carrots, finely diced2 medium onions, finely diced1 1/2 lb. ground chuck1/2 small rutabaga, diced Preheat oven to 350°. Blend flour, shortening and salt. Combine egg, water and vinegar and add to flour mixture. Mix lightly. Divide dough into 6 equal parts. Roll each section of dough to about 7-inch diameter. To assemble pasties, on half of each section, place layers of vegetables and meat. Sprinkle with salt and pepper and dot with butter. Fold other half of crust over filling, seal and flute the edge. Bake on ungreased cookie sheets for 1 hour. Serve hot with ketchup or gravy. They can be frozen after baking.
