Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 2 Tbsp
  • cornstarch
  • vegetable oil - 1 Tbsp
  • ginger - 1 tsp
  • soy sauce - 1/2 c
  • chopped green onions and tops - 1/4 c
  • clove garlic, pressed - 1 item
  • boneless beef sirloin steak

How to make beef kushisashi:

Blend soy sauce, green onions, sugar, oil, cornstarch, garlic and ginger in small saucepan. Simmer, stirring constantly, until thickened, about 1 minute; cool. Cover and set aside.

Slice beef into 1/8-inch thick strips, about 4-inches long and 1-inch wide. Thread onto bamboo or metal skewers, keeping meat as flat as possible; brush both sides of beef with sauce. Place skewers on rack of broiler pan; broil to desired degree of doneness. Makes 10 to 12 appetizer servings.

Meat is easy to slice if slightly frozen. If using wooden skewers, soak in water for 30 minutes to prevent burning.
