Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 2 tsp
- butter - 2 Tbsp
- water - 8 c
- chili powder - 2 Tbsp
- oregano - 1 tsp
- salt and pepper - 1 item
- onion, chopped - 1 c
- ground cumin - 1 tsp
- cayenne - 1 item
- green pepper, chopped - 1/2 c
- celery, chopped - 1 c
- can tomatoes - 1 item
- clove garlic, crushed - 1 item
- pinto beans - 2 c
- ham or bacon - 1 item
How to make bean soup:
Wash beans. Simmer beans, water and meat in covered kettle 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Add water if needed. Fry onion, celery, garlic and green pepper in butter until tender. Add to soup with tomatoes and seasonings. Cover and simmer at least 30 minutes longer.Recipe categories: For large groups, Soups & stews, Beans.
