Ingredients/Components

  • bag navy beans - 1 item
  • carrots - 1 lb
  • medium potatoes - 4 item
  • stalks celery - 3 item
  • medium onion - 1 item
  • ham end - 2 lb
  • garlic salt - 1/2 tsp
  • pepper - 1/2 tsp
  • cloves - 1/4 tsp

How to make bean soup:

Soak beans overnight. Discard water. Dice potatoes (skin on), celery, carrots and onion. Put in 6-quart pot. Add ham. Cover with water. Simmer 5 hours. Remove ham. Discard fat and bone. Cut ham into bite-size. Return to soup. If soup is too thin, cook longer; if too thick, add water. Serve with toasted bagels.
