Ingredients/Components

  • brown sugar - 2 Tbsp
  • water - 1/2 c
  • oil - 2 Tbsp
  • vinegar - 2 Tbsp
  • lemon juice - 1/4 c
  • Worcestershire sauce - 3 Tbsp
  • chopped celery - 1/2 c
  • ketchup - 1 c
  • prepared mustard - 1/2 tsp
  • salt and pepper - 1 item
  • onions, sliced - 2 item
  • salt and cayenne pepper - 1 item
  • spareribs, cut in 2-inch wide pieces - 4 lb
  • Do not add water to roaster pan

How to make barbecued spareribs:

Parboil ribs slightly, then drain off all water and braise in oven for about 1 hour, having added salt and pepper. Do not add water to roaster pan. When about half done, brown sliced onion and add to ribs. Stir ribs now and then to brown evenly.Sauce:1 chopped onion2 Tbsp. oil2 Tbsp. vinegar2 Tbsp. brown sugar1/4 c. lemon juice1 c. ketchup3 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce1/2 tsp. prepared mustard1/2 c. water1/2 c. chopped celery salt and cayenne pepper Mix onion, oil and vinegar. Add other sauce ingredients. Add browned onions from roaster pan with other sauce ingredients. Mix well and pour over ribs. The longer you cook, the better.
