Ingredients/Components

  • salt
  • brown sugar - 1/3 c
  • water - 3/4 c
  • vinegar - 1/3 c
  • shortening - 1 Tbsp
  • Worcestershire sauce - 1 tsp
  • chopped onion - 1/2 c
  • catsup - 1 c
  • celery seed - 1/4 tsp
  • ribs - 5 6

How to make barbecue ribs:

Arrange ribs in shallow roasting pan. Sprinkle with salt. Cover pan with aluminum foil and crimp it securely. Bake in a 350° oven for 70 minutes or until meat is almost tender, 1 1/2 hours for country-style ribs.

Sauce: Cook onion in shortening until tender but not brown. Stir in remaining ingredients. Simmer for 20 to 30 minutes. Cover ribs with sauce and bake for 30 minutes at 375°, turning frequently.
