  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • granulated sugar - 1/2 c
  • milk
  • salt - 1/4 tsp
  • cornstarch
  • egg yolks - 3 item
  • maraschino cherries - 1 item
  • pecan pieces - 1 item
  • crushed pineapple, well drained - 1/2 c
  • baked pie crust - 1 item
  • semi-sweet chocolate morsels, melted - 1/4 c
  • to 10 maraschino cherries, chopped - 8 item
  • Topping: whipped cream
  • large banana, sliced and chopped - 1 item

How to make banana split pie:

Topping: whipped cream maraschino cherries pecan pieces1/4 c. semi-sweet chocolate morsels, melted Beat yolks, set aside. Combine sugar, cornstarch and salt in saucepan. Add milk. Cook over medium heat, stirring, until pudding begins to thicken. Add pineapple. Stir a little of the hot pudding into egg yolks. Add the egg yolk mixture to the remaining pudding. Cook over medium heat, stirring until pudding has thickened. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla. Let cool to room temperature. Add banana and chopped cherries. Pour into baked, cooled pie crust. Top cooled pie with whipped cream. Garnish with cherries and pecan pieces. Drizzle melted chocolate over top. Yields 6 servings.
