  • medium ripe bananas use more, if necessary - 2 item
  • Neapolitan ice cream - 1/2 1
  • chopped walnuts or pecans - 1 c
  • chocolate chips - 1 c
  • butter - 1/2 c
  • powdered sugar - 2 c
  • evaporated milk
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • Cool Whip - 1 qt
  • graham cracker crust recipe - 1 item

How to make banana split dessert:

Cover bottom of a 9 x 13-inch pan with graham cracker crust. Reserve 1/2 cup crumbs. Slice bananas and place in layer over crust. Slice ice cream into thick slices and place over bananas until it is level with the top of the pan. Sprinkle with walnuts and freeze until firm. Melt chocolate chips, butter, sugar and milk. Cook until thick and smooth, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Cool chocolate and pour over ice cream. Freeze until firm.

Spread Cool Whip over chocolate and sprinkle reserved crumbs on top of Cool Whip. Return to freezer. Add a cherry when serving or before returning to freezer.
