Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1/3 c
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • milk - 3 c
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour - 1 tsp
  • butter - 1 Tbsp
  • cornstarch
  • egg yolks - 3 item
  • cream of tartar - 1/4 tsp
  • Meringue:3 egg whites
  • flavoring - 1/2 tsp

How to make banana pudding:

Meringue:3 egg whites1/4 tsp. cream of tartar6 Tbsp. sugar1/2 tsp. flavoring Vanilla Pudding: Combine sugar, salt, cornstarch and flour in a saucepan or skillet. Stir in milk, gradually. Cook over moderate heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and boils. Boil 1 minute. Remove from heat. Slowly stir half the mixture into 3 egg yolks, slightly beaten. Then blend into hot mixture in saucepan. Boil 1 minute more, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Blend in butter and vanilla.

Meringue: Beat egg whites until they are stiff. Add cream of tartar, sugar and flavoring (if desired).

In a baking dish, put one layer of vanilla wafers, sliced bananas over vanilla wafers, vanilla pudding over sliced bananas and cover top with meringue. Brown in a 400° oven.
