  • sugar
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • milk - 1 c
  • salt - 3/4 tsp
  • baking powder - 1 tsp
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • chopped nuts optional - 1/2 c
  • powdered sugar - 1 c
  • Crisco - 1/2 c
  • mashed bananas - 1 c
  • margarine - 1/2 c
  • flour, sifted - 2 c
  • flour heaping
  • sour milk add 1/2 tsp - 1/2 c
  • nuts, finely grated - 1/2 c

How to make banana cake:

Icing:3 Tbsp. flour (heaping)1 c. milk1/2 c. margarine1/2 c. Crisco1 c. powdered sugar1 tsp. vanilla1/2 c. nuts, finely grated Put the Crisco in a mixing bowl and stir to soften. Add dry ingredients, also 1/4 cup of the 1/2 cup of sour milk and bananas. Mix until flour is damp, then beat for 2 minutes. Add eggs, nuts and remaining 1/4 cup of sour milk. Beat for 1 minute. Bake in a 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan at 375° for 25 minutes or until done.

Icing: Take flour and milk and mix like a paste. Boil until thick and bubbly. Cool. Add margarine, Crisco, powdered sugar and vanilla; cream well. Spread on cooled cake and sprinkle with nuts, grated fine.
