Banana cake
Ingredients/Components
- cake flour or sift flour 3 times
- baking powder
- soda
- salt - 1 tsp
- Crisco - 2/3 c
- sugar
- mashed bananas - 3 item
- sour milk - 1/3 c
- Cream Crisco and sugar
- butter - 1 Tbsp
- powdered sugar
- well-drained crushed pineapple - 1/2 c
How to make banana cake:
Sift together flour, baking powder, soda and salt; set aside. Cream Crisco and sugar. Add bananas and 1/3 cup sour milk and beat well. Beat in flour mixture with an additional 1/3 cup sour milk. Grease and flour or place a circle of wax paper into two 9-inch round pans, greasing and flouring sides of pans. Put equal amount of batter in pans. Bake at 350° for 35 minutes or until tested done with toothpick.Frosting:2 Tbsp. Crisco1 Tbsp. butter1/4 tsp. salt2 1/2 c. powdered sugar1/2 c. well-drained crushed pineapple Frost the sides of the cake and then the top. Place coconut on top and sides.My mother-in-law, Irene Jollief, gave this recipe to me (about 1955). It is my husband's favorite cake. It freezes well.
