Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1/2 c
  • cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • butter, melted - 1 lb
  • almonds - 1/2 lb
  • phyllo
  • walnuts - 1 lb

How to make baklava:

Grind almonds and walnuts and add sugar and cinnamon. Butter pan and add five phyllo, buttering each layer.

On the next phyllo, spread nut mixture. Butter next three phyllo and add nut mixture and continue this until all the phyllo is used. The last phyllo should be buttered on the top. Cut before baking in diamond shapes. Bake at 400° for about 50 to 60 minutes. (Use a 10 x 15-inch pan that is 1-inch or more deep.)

While Baklava is baking, make syrup. Add 4 cups of sugar, 4 cups of water and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. Bring to a boil and boil for 15 minutes. Cool syrup and add to hot Baklava.
