Ingredients/Components
- half and half - 1 c
- salt - 1/4 tsp
- butter or margarine, melted - 1/4 c
- pepper - 1/4 tsp
- shredded sharp Cheddar cheese - 1 c
- can cream of mushroom soup, undiluted - 1 3/4
- large sweet onions - 4 lb
- 3/4-inch slices French bread - 8 item
How to make baked sweet onions:
Slice onions; cut each slice in half. Saute onion in 1/4 cup butter in a Dutch oven until crisp-tender. Spoon into a lightly greased baking dish. Spoon into a lightly greased baking dish. Combine soup, half and half, salt and pepper. Pour mixture over onion. Sprinkle cheese evenly over sauce. Arrange bread slices on top and brush with 3 tablespoons butter.
