  • flour - 1/2 c
  • water - 3 qt
  • margarine - 1/2 c
  • bread crumbs - 3/4 c
  • shredded Cheddar cheese
  • elbow macaroni - 1 lb
  • whole milk - 2 qt

How to make baked macaroni and cheese:

Prepare macaroni; drain and rinse. Heat milk in double boiler to 180°. Melt margarine. Add flour to make a roux. Add to milk, stirring until dissolved. Milk should begin to thicken. Add cheese; stir until melted entirely. Combine elbows and cheese sauce in baking pan. Mix margarine with bread crumbs; sprinkle over macaroni. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes, until golden brown.
