Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 1 tsp
  • butter - 2 Tbsp
  • pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • fine bread crumbs - 1/4 c
  • onion, chopped - 1/2 c
  • medium potatoes - 6 item
  • sharp shredded Cheddar cheese - 2 c
  • milk with 2 tsp - 2 c

How to make au gratin potatoes:

Cook onions in butter until tender, stir in flour, salt and pepper. Cook over low heat until smooth. Cool and stir in milk with butter and 1 1/2 cups cheese. Heat for 1 minute. Put potatoes in casserole dish, pour cheese sauce over potatoes. Bake 1 hour at 375°. Put balance of cheese over, sprinkle crumbs and heat 15 minutes longer.
