Applesauce cake
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 2 c
- cinnamon - 1/2 tsp
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- chopped nuts - 1/2 c
- soda - 2 tsp
- shortening - 1/2 c
- large egg - 1 item
- all-purpose flour
- cloves - 1/2 tsp
- allspice - 1/2 tsp
- thick applesauce
- finely chopped dates or raisins - 1 c
How to make applesauce cake:
Cream shortening and sugar together. Add egg and blend in applesauce. Sift together several times the flour, salt, cinnamon, cloves and allspice. Dissolve soda in 1/2 cup boiling water and add to dry ingredients. Mix all ingredients together well and pour into a long cake pan. Bake at 350° for 35 or 40 minutes. Does not need to be iced.
