  • sugar - 1 c
  • cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1/4 tsp
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • egg - 1 item
  • raisins - 1 c
  • margarine - 1/4 lb
  • cloves - 1/2 tsp
  • butter or Crisco - 1/2 c
  • small can evaporated milk - 1 item
  • sifted plain flour
  • black walnuts, chopped - 1 c
  • chopped cherries - 1/2 c
  • Beat in egg
  • thick sweetened applesauce - 1 c

How to make applesauce cake:

Cream butter and sugar. Beat in egg. Add walnuts and raisins that have been rolled in 2 tablespoons flour, taken out of the flour. Sift flour, salt, soda and spices together. Stir into the butter mixture; add applesauce. Pour into 2 greased and floured 8 or 9-inch layer pans. Bake at 325° until done.Caramel Frosting:1 box light brown sugar1 small can evaporated milk1/4 lb. margarine Place all ingredients into a saucepan and bring to a full boil and boil 2 minutes. Remove from heat and beat until spreading consistency. Frost between layers, top and sides of cake.
